Specialized Trauma Therapy Thornton
It’s Hurting what you love most
You see it in your work, your sleep, your patience, your closest relationships. You’ve worked so hard to live with it, but it’s starting to feel impossible to keep carrying it alone.
Trauma & what you notice.
You snap or shut down over things that “shouldn’t be a big deal.”
You go numb too often
Memories you don’t want keep showing up
You pull back from people you love,
You feel distant all the time
And you’ve tried to handle it:
You’ve told yourself to move on.
You’ve tried to outwork it, outpray it, or outthink it.
You’ve done everything you know to keep it contained.
It’s not working any more.
We specialized in Trauma-informed therapy like EMDR, Brainspotting, & IFS
Large research on trauma‑focused therapies:
Around half of people who start trauma‑focused therapy no longer meet full PTSD criteria by the end of treatment.
Most others still see a meaningful drop in symptoms like nightmares, flashbacks, hypervigilance, and avoidance, even if they still have some PTSD features.
Many studies show that these gains tend to hold for months or years when people keep using what they learned in therapy.
At Known Counseling, we work with evidence‑informed therapies to help your nervous system safely face, process, and re‑organize what happened so it doesn’t run your life the way it has been.

The 4 Week Start
Give yourself four focused weeks.
Over the next month, we will help you:
Sessions 1–2: Safety & Clarity
We map how the past is showing up in your body, thoughts, and relationships now.
You learn simple practices to feel a little more steady day to day.
Sessions 3–4: Gently turning toward the pain
We begin to approach the memories, meanings, and patterns that keep repeating.
We stay inside your emotional window, checking in often about pace and impact.
After that: Deepening & Rebuilding
We continue processing at your speed.
We work toward a life that’s bigger than what happened to you: more rest, more choice, more connection.
You don’t have to have this all figured out before you start. We’ll figure it out together.
Four weeks will not “fix everything,” but it will give you real, evidence based change you can feel, and a clear sense of what is possible if you keep going.
Next Step
Free 15 minute phone consultation.
We will listen, answer your questions and help you decide whether this is the right step for you together.
You have already been trying to fix this on your own. You do not have to keep doing it that way.
COMMON QUESTIONS
Before Counseling
-
We do not bill insurance directly. We accept HSA and FSA cards. We can give you a receipt (called a superbill) to send to your insurance. They may pay you back part of the cost
-
No. You are in charge of what you share and when.
Trauma counseling is not about forcing you to relive every detail. It’s about helping your nervous system feel safer and less overwhelmed in the present. In our work together, we’ll move at your pace. That can look like:
Starting with what you’re experiencing now (sleep, reactions, relationships) rather than jumping straight into the past
Focusing on how your body responds, and learning grounding tools, before we ever touch specific memories
Checking in often about what feels okay, what feels like too much, and adjusting as we go
Some people eventually choose to talk through specific events. Others do powerful work by focusing more on patterns, beliefs, and body reactions. Both are valid.
You will never be pushed to share details you’re not ready to share. Our goal is to help you feel less controlled by what happened, not re‑traumatized by therapy.

Yes, if you want it to be. Faith can be part of your sessions if it matters to you. We don't require it, and we won't leave it out if it's a big part of your relationship.

It depends on which counselors have open times that week. Most couples get an appointment fairly fast, especially if you're willing to see any of our counselors instead of waiting for one person.
